Farm Bureau Applauds Summer Ethanol Blend Waiver

Farm Bureau Applauds Summer Ethanol Blend Waiver

By Andi Anderson

The recent announcement by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to issue an emergency fuel waiver allowing the sale of summer gasoline blends containing 15% ethanol has been welcomed by the Farm Bureau. This waiver extends the period during which Americans can purchase E15, offering relief at the pump amidst market supply issues linked to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Ohio Farm Bureau Executive Vice President Adam Sharp highlighted the significance of ethanol-blended gasoline for farmers in Ohio and beyond, emphasizing the cost-saving benefits for consumers. While advocating for a permanent solution to year-round E15 sales, the Farm Bureau recognizes the immediate relief provided by the summer ethanol blend waiver.

American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall echoed these sentiments, expressing appreciation for the Biden administration's acknowledgment of biofuels' role in meeting America's energy needs. E15 gasoline offers families a more affordable choice, contributing to energy independence and climate-smart solutions.

The EPA plans to monitor the fuel supply situation closely, collaborating with industry and federal partners. Further waivers are expected to be issued to address ongoing fuel supply challenges until the market stabilizes amid geopolitical tensions.

The Farm Bureau celebrates the extension of E15 availability, recognizing its benefits for farmers, consumers, and the nation's energy security.
