The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) is currently inviting nominations for the prestigious 2024 New Innovator in Food & Agriculture Research Award. This initiative aims to recognize and support up to 10 early-career scientists dedicated to advancing research within FFAR’s Research Priority Areas, with a focus on promoting sustainable global food production practices.
The award offers each selected recipient the opportunity to secure funding of up to $150,000 annually, with a maximum duration of three years, totaling a significant $450,000. Remarkably, FFAR is removing the requirement for awardees to secure matching funds, providing a unique avenue for researchers to concentrate solely on their innovative work without the added pressure of sourcing additional funding.
The New Innovator in Food and Agriculture Research Award is designed to address a common challenge faced by early-career scientists in obtaining crucial grant funding at the beginning of their careers. By offering financial support, FFAR aims to empower grantees to immerse themselves fully in their research pursuits, allowing them to explore innovative ideas without the constraints of seeking additional financial support.
FFAR's commitment to providing this unique grant underscores its dedication to nurturing the potential of creative, promising scientists whose work holds the promise of addressing significant challenges in the realms of food and agriculture.
In the selection process, FFAR will evaluate eligible nominees based on their diversity, collaboration potential, innovation, and unconventional perspectives. The foundation is seeking research initiatives that can make a substantial impact on the contemporary challenges faced by the food and agriculture sectors.
The deadline for submitting nominations is set for February 21 at 5:00 p.m. ET, and interested parties are encouraged to review the detailed submission guidelines and program deadlines available on the FFAR website.
Educational institutions, nonprofit research institutions, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are encouraged to nominate eligible individuals holding tenure-track or equivalent positions as per the criteria outlined in the Call for Nominations. FFAR is particularly interested in applications from a diverse range of institutions, including Hispanic-serving institutions, 1890s Land-Grant Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions.
The New Innovator in Food & Agriculture Research Award exemplifies FFAR's commitment to fostering a new generation of researchers equipped to tackle the complex issues in the realms of food and agriculture. Interested parties are urged to explore the comprehensive information available on the FFAR website to ensure their nominations align with the foundation's objectives and criteria.
