Gerber & Sons, a leading livestock grain feed producer, is set to revitalize an unused industrial property in Holmes County's Baltic area. The company's commitment to invest $26.3 million in collaboration with JobsOhio, Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE), and the Holmes County Economic Development Council will bring significant changes to the site.
The project involves the renovation and expansion of a 25,000-square-foot warehouse on a 60-acre parcel in the Baltic. The facility will be enlarged to 48,000 square feet, allowing Gerber & Sons to enhance its service to farm operations and regional farm supply locations across multiple states.
The company's current mill, constructed in the 1970s after a devastating fire, will also undergo modernization to increase bulk feed capacity by 25% and bagged feed capacity by 20%.
The investment is crucial for the long-term sustainability of Gerber & Sons, creating nine new jobs over three years while redeveloping a brownfield property.
The project received support from JobsOhio, which granted a $100,000 JobsOhio Revitalization Grant, and Ohio Southeast Economic Development, which assisted with the grant process. Furthermore, Holmes County offered a tax abatement with an estimated value of $650,000 over 10 years.
The expansion will enable Gerber & Sons to significantly boost production capacity and broaden its market reach. The company's dedication to quality and service, combined with the state-of-the-art facilities, is expected to fuel continued success for the fifth-generation family business, which has been operating in the Baltic for over a century.
