Ohio State University Extension will host the Stored Forages Field Day on August 8 in Morgan County, Ohio, giving beef and forage producers an opportunity to learn practical forage-feeding strategies that can improve efficiency and profitability.
The event will begin at the Faith Haven Event Center in Malta, Ohio, followed by visits to two livestock operations that have successfully incorporated stored forage systems into their feeding programs. Participants will see how haylage and corn silage can be effectively used in cow-calf and feedlot operations.
One stop includes Clemens Farms, a commercial and Simmental cow-calf operation that uses wrapped hay and feeding pads to improve feeding efficiency and reduce pasture damage. Attendees will also tour Wiseman Livestock, a diversified cow-calf and feedlot enterprise that utilizes corn silage extensively and has recently upgraded its forage storage and feeding facilities.
Ohio State University specialists will provide research-based insights on cattle nutrition, forage utilization, feed efficiency, silage management, feeding infrastructure, and herd productivity. Featured speakers include Dr. Haley Linder, Dr. Jason Hartschuh, and Garth Ruff.
A complimentary BBQ brisket lunch will be served at noon. Producers interested in attending must register by July 30 at go.osu.edu/foragesforbeef or by calling 740-962-4854.
