Manure Science Review Showcases Latest Farming Solutions

By Andi Anderson

Agricultural professionals, farmers, researchers, and industry representatives will have an opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in manure management and water quality during the 2026 Manure Science Review. The educational event is scheduled for July 22 at Homan, Inc. in Maria Stein, Ohio, and will provide participants with valuable information on improving farm productivity while protecting natural resources.

The one-day program will bring together experts from various agricultural fields to discuss current research, innovative technologies, and practical management strategies. Through presentations and hands-on demonstrations, attendees will gain insights into methods that can improve nutrient use efficiency and support environmental sustainability.

One of the major topics of discussion will focus on comparing manure and commercial fertilizers. Experts will examine how both nutrient sources contribute to crop production and explore the long-term impacts of their application on soil health and farm performance. Understanding these differences can help producers make informed decisions about nutrient management.

The event will also highlight the design and implementation of agricultural water and nutrient best management practices. These practices are important for improving water quality, reducing nutrient losses, and supporting sustainable agricultural systems. Attendees will learn how conservation-focused approaches can benefit both farms and surrounding ecosystems.

Updates on water quality issues and Lake Erie will be provided by specialists associated with Ohio Sea Grant. Participants will receive information on current water quality conditions and ongoing efforts to address environmental challenges affecting agricultural watersheds.

In addition, representatives will share the latest developments related to the H2Ohio initiative. This program supports voluntary conservation efforts aimed at protecting water resources while helping farmers implement effective nutrient management strategies.

A key feature of the Manure Science Review is its interactive learning opportunities. Attendees will have the chance to observe a rainfall simulator demonstration, which shows how water movement affects soil and nutrient management. Several field demonstrations will also showcase innovative technologies and practices designed to improve agricultural efficiency.

Featured demonstrations will include P205 technology, Rain360 systems, and manure bridge technology. These tools are designed to help producers manage nutrients more effectively while promoting responsible environmental stewardship.

The event also provides an excellent opportunity for networking and knowledge exchange among farmers, agronomists, conservation professionals, researchers, and industry leaders. Participants can discuss challenges, share experiences, and learn about emerging solutions that address modern agricultural needs.

By combining education, research, and practical demonstrations, the 2026 Manure Science Review aims to support informed decision-making across the agricultural community. The event will help participants better understand how innovative manure management and water quality practices can contribute to productive, profitable, and environmentally responsible farming operations.
