The 2026 Northwest Agronomic Field Day will offer farmers and agriculture professionals a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest developments in crop management. The event will be held on Thursday, July 23, at the Northwest Agricultural Research Station located at 4240 Range Line Road in Custar, Ohio. It is organized by Ohio State University Extension and focuses on improving corn and soybean production practices.
This field day will provide participants with practical information on several important agricultural topics. These include corn and soybean planting depth, soybean defoliation, and choosing the right soybean seed treatments. Such topics are important because they directly affect crop growth, yield, and overall farm productivity.
The event will also cover soil-related practices, such as managing residual soil nitrogen and understanding the impact of swine manure on soil health and corn yield. These sessions will help farmers improve soil fertility, which is essential for strong and healthy crops. Additionally, there will be discussions on fungicide application methods, including comparisons between drone and sprayer techniques for managing diseases like Gibberella ear rot (GER) and vomitoxin.
The program will feature expert speakers from Ohio State University Extension. Alex Lindsey will discuss planting depth and corn defoliation. Horacio Lopez-Nicora will provide guidance on selecting suitable soybean seed treatments. Greg LaBarge will explain how to manage residual soil nitrogen effectively. Nina Nebesh will present methods of disease control using drones and sprayers, while Stephanie Karhoff will share research on the use of swine manure and its benefits for soil and crop yield.
Registration for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the sessions will start at 9:00 a.m. A free lunch will be provided at 12:00 p.m., courtesy of the Ohio Soybean Council.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance to attend the event. They can complete registration online or contact Nick Eckel at eckel.21@osu.edu or by phone at 419-354-9050.
