Ohio Farm Bureau has welcomed a new director of communications and media relations this summer. For the new leader, the role marks a homecoming — returning to the Buckeye State and serving the organization that shaped their path in agriculture.
Raised in Highland County, the director grew up around farming but discovered the full scope of agriculture through participation in 4-H and FFA. These programs, along with the support of family, mentors, and community members, sparked an interest in agricultural leadership and communications.
That interest led to studies in political science and agricultural communications at The Ohio State University, where they served as Ohio FFA state president, led the Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter, and worked closely with Ohio Farm Bureau at the state fair.
After earning a master’s degree in Christian ministries, their career took them to Washington, D.C., as a communications specialist with the American Farm Bureau Federation. There, they gained a national perspective by writing for executive leadership and traveling alongside AFBF President Zippy Duvall.
Now back in Ohio, the director is eager to apply national experience to state-specific challenges. A top priority is strengthening connections between farmers, lawmakers, media, and the public while amplifying the voices of grassroots members.
This leadership transition follows Ty Higgins, who built a strong communications foundation during his six years in the role. Higgins now continues his agricultural media career as general manager of Ag Net Communications.
As the new director begins, one of the most important goals is keeping in touch with members and the farming community. Farmers and supporters are encouraged to connect and share challenges, priorities, and stories to ensure Ohio Farm Bureau’s work reflects the voices of its members.
