The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) has awarded two Soil and Water Conservation Districts for their exemplary leadership and commitment to the H2Ohio program. ODA Director Brian Baldridge presented the awards to Erie and Mercer counties at the 2024 Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Annual Partnership Meeting in Columbus.
Director Brian Baldridge expressed gratitude, stating, “H2Ohio would not be a success without the tireless work from our Soil and Water Conservation Districts. They are the trusted voices in our communities helping connect Ohio’s farmers to conservation.”
The H2Ohio Lifetime Conservation Advocate Award, bestowed upon Erie and Mercer counties, recognizes individuals who display exceptional leadership and dedication to water quality through the H2Ohio initiative. Award recipients are acknowledged as devoted stewards of water quality improvement and conservation, showcasing innovation, partnership, enthusiasm, and a proactive attitude.
This recognition aligns with Governor DeWine’s H2Ohio initiative, launched in 2019, designed to address complex issues impacting Ohio’s waters. H2Ohio employs a comprehensive approach guided by science and data, focusing on reducing algal blooms, preventing pollution, and enhancing access to clean drinking water. The initiative supports best farming practices, road salt runoff reduction, litter cleanup, dam removal, land conservation, and water infrastructure revitalization.
