The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) proudly announces the winners of the 2024 Stewardship, Service, and Beginning Farmer awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to sustainable farming.
2024 Stewardship Award — Brandt Family Farm Brandt Family Farm in Fairfield County receives the Stewardship Award for over 50 years of leading in sustainable practices. David Brandt, a pioneer in no-till and regenerative farming, along with his family, continues the legacy with diverse grain production and soil conservation. Despite challenges, their commitment to land and soil stewardship remains strong.
2024 Service Award — Tom Redfern Tom Redfern's journey, from growing produce as a child to becoming the Senior Director of Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry at Rural Action, earns him the Service Award. Instrumental in the growth of Rural Action's sustainable agriculture program, Tom's impact extends to initiatives like the Chesterhill Produce Auction. His dedication to farmer-informed education and infrastructure has left a lasting mark on Ohio's Appalachian counties.
2024 Beginning Farmer Award — Kim Bayer Kim Bayer's unique journey from library science to Slow Farm in Ann Arbor, Michigan, earns her the Beginning Farmer Award. Committed to organic vegetable, fruit, and flower production, Kim emphasizes regenerative practices. Slow Farm serves as an educational hub, promoting hands-on agroecology and nutrition education.
As OEFFA celebrates these farmers during its 45th annual conference, these awards highlight their crucial role in shaping a sustainable future for Ohio's agriculture. Their stories inspire a new generation of farmers, emphasizing the importance of innovation, stewardship, and community in sustainable agriculture.
