Ohio Farm Bureau delegates gathered in Columbus on Dec. 11 and 12 for the organization’s 107th Annual Meeting to shape policy priorities for 2026.
The meeting brought together nearly 340 delegates representing all 88 counties across Ohio. These delegates discussed key issues that affect farmers, rural communities, and the future of agriculture in the state.
A major focus of discussion was property taxes. Delegates supported reforming the property tax system while also addressing inflation pressures that affect landowners.
At the same time, they recognized the importance of the Current Agricultural Use Valuation program, commonly known as CAUV, in helping preserve farmland across Ohio.
The organization voted to oppose the complete removal of property taxes. Delegates expressed concerns about unknown outcomes, possible increases in agriculture’s overall tax burden, negative effects on rural communities, and the loss of local control. This balanced approach reflects a careful effort to protect both farmers and local governments.
Land use and zoning issues were also discussed in detail. Delegates supported stronger citizen involvement when zoning changes are considered.
They also emphasized the need to maintain local control, especially when it comes to zoning rules for short term rentals. These discussions highlighted the importance of community voices in local land decisions.
New policy proposals also addressed national issues. Delegates supported labeling for media created using artificial intelligence and encouraged support for new and innovative uses of agricultural products.
These topics show how agriculture continues to adapt to technology and changing markets.
“The delegates representing their county Farm Bureaus understand how important their job is at this meeting to set the advocacy positions of the state’s largest general farm organization,” said Ohio Farm Bureau Vice President of Public Policy Jack Irvin. “The discussions over these last two days not only shape our advocacy agenda, but demonstrate the importance of our grassroots process.”
Ohio Farm Bureau continues its mission of working together for Ohio farmers to advance agriculture and strengthen communities. The annual meeting remains a key part of ensuring farmer voices guide policy decisions at the state and national levels.
