Ohio Farm Bureau Supports Youth at Ohio State Fair

The Ohio State Fair's 2023 Sale of Champions showcased excellence in Ohio's livestock industry, culminating in a remarkable showcase of premium animals, accomplished junior exhibitors, and supportive contributors. This event, hosted on August 6 at the WCOL Celeste Center, not only celebrated Ohio's finest livestock but also raised an impressive total of $547,500.

Collaborating with partners Kroger and Bob Evans, the Ohio Farm Bureau made impactful contributions by purchasing the Reserve Grand Champion Market Beef exhibited by Beckett Winegardner from Allen County. The winning bid amounted to $37,500, with $18,000 going to Winegardner and the remaining $19,500 benefiting the Virgil L. Strickler Youth Reserve Program.

In another commendable effort, Ohio Farm Bureau, in conjunction with partners Bob Evans and Kroger, secured the Reserve Grand Champion Market Barrow exhibited by Logan Deel of Gallia County. The winning bid for this prized livestock reached $35,000, providing Deel with $9,000 and directing $26,000 to the Virgil L. Strickler Youth Reserve Program.

The Youth Reserve Program, established in 1995, continues to reward junior exhibitors participating in the Ohio State Fair. This year's Sale of Champions raised a substantial $421,500 for the program. Since its inception, the program has granted over $5 million to more than 44,000 youth exhibitors, contributing to their growth and success.

Ohio Farm Bureau's dedication to advancing agriculture and strengthening communities is evident in their collaborative efforts during the State Fair auction. These endeavors not only support young talents but also uphold community engagement.
