Ohio's farmers are making steady progress with planting corn and soybeans, according to a report by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Ohio Field Office. While occasional rain showers have presented obstacles, planting continues.
Topsoil moisture conditions are favorable, with 65% adequate and 30% surplus. Average temperatures remain above normal, and precipitation levels are slightly below average. Despite some rain disruptions, there were nearly five days suitable for fieldwork last week
Corn planting has reached 95% completion, and soybean planting is at 88% complete. Corn emergence is at 85%, while soybeans are at 75%. Overall, corn and soybean conditions are good to excellent, though slightly down from the previous week
Some challenges have been reported. Farmers mentioned replanting soybeans due to slug damage and the presence of armyworms in some northern Ohio wheat fields
Winter wheat is 17% mature, with good to excellent condition ratings slightly lower than the previous week. Oat planting and emergence are nearly complete, with good to excellent crop condition. Hay cutting and pasture conditions remain favorable.
The report highlights Ohio's agricultural progress despite some weather and pest challenges. Farmers are nearing completion of corn and soybean planting, with good overall crop conditions.
