Ohio State University Extension will host the Fall 2024 Weeds University on November 21, aimed at agronomic crop producers, Certified Crop Advisors (CCAs), and agribusiness professionals. Running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this hands-on, in-person event will take place at multiple Ohio locations, including Darke, Highland, Sandusky, Licking, Paulding, and Mahoning counties, with some virtual presentations broadcasted at each site.
Designed to keep farmers updated on the latest weed control practices, Weeds University will cover topics such as new herbicides, drone applications, and burcucumber management, alongside hands-on weed identification with live plants. Each session tailors its content to local needs, making it highly relevant to participants.
Key sessions include:
Drone Applications: Dr. Steve Li from Auburn University will discuss the use of drones for agricultural herbicide applications, covering control efficacy and potential for reducing herbicide drift.
Burcucumber Control: Penn State’s Dwight Lingenfelter, an expert in applied weed science, will share insights on managing burcucumber, a reemerging weed that poses challenges for Ohio crop production.
Ohio Agronomic Weeds Update: Dr. Alyssa Essman from Ohio State University will review new herbicide options and upcoming EPA and ESA regulations, helping growers stay compliant while controlling weeds effectively.
New Technology in Weed Science: Dr. Eugene Law from Ohio State will introduce the latest technology options for weed management, focusing on precision tools and their effectiveness in weed control.
Participants are encouraged to register by November 14, as each location has a cap of 30 attendees, and walk-ins are not permitted. Registration costs $40 per person and covers course materials and speaker Q&A sessions. Credits for Commercial, Private Pesticide, and Certified Crop Advisors will be available.
