Ohio's Farmland Preservation Program Expands with 295 Additional Acres

The Farmland Preservation Program in Ohio recently witnessed a significant expansion with the addition of 295 acres. This development, announced by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, highlights the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve valuable agricultural land in the state.

Two farmers, Curtis N. Bechtel from Knox County and Ronald S. Rickly from Fairfield County, have become the seventh and eighth participants, respectively, to join the program this year. The local sponsors, Owl Creek Conservancy and Fairfield County Board of Commissioners, played instrumental roles in securing these agreements in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Since its inception in 1998, the Farmland Preservation Program has successfully enrolled 688 farms, encompassing a total of 103,915 acres. The program aims to safeguard agricultural land from non-agricultural development, ensuring its long-term availability for farming activities.

By adding these 295 acres to the program, Ohio reinforces its commitment to preserving its agricultural heritage and supporting the economic vitality of rural communities. The funds generated from the purchase of easements contribute to the local economy, fostering sustainable agriculture and fostering the region's overall prosperity.

The continuous expansion of Ohio's Farmland Preservation Program underscores the state's dedication to maintaining a thriving agricultural industry and preserving its valuable farming resources for future generations.
