Steady Cheese Trade Balances Milk Production

Cheese markets remain in a balanced state across the United States, with steady milk supplies and strong retail demand keeping production aligned with market needs. Eastern processors continue to see consistent schedules and sufficient milk for production. Inventories are comfortable, although lighter than earlier in October. Export interest remains firm, reflecting ongoing international competitiveness.

In the Central region, some cheese plants have reduced operations as extended downtime limits output. Although milk remains accessible, Class I processors are drawing larger volumes for beverage use, slightly reducing availability for cheese making. Mozzarella sales remain a bright spot, with firm domestic interest. Barrel inventories have tightened further, and export orders continue to offset slower activity in the spot market.

Out West, milk supplies continue to meet processing needs. Production levels are steady to strong, and most processors are prioritizing contract fulfilment. Retail and foodservice demand remains moderate, with exports performing unevenly but benefiting from competitive U.S. prices. Spot loads of cheese remain accessible, though select types have seen reduced availability.

As the year draws to a close, cheese markets are expected to maintain their balanced rhythm. Strong demand, steady milk flow, and manageable inventories suggest a stable finish to the 2025 dairy season.
