Winter AgriSeries Offers Training on Grants Funding and Key Farm Topics

Winter AgriSeries Offers Training on Grants Funding and Key Farm Topics

By Andi Anderson

Farmers and community members in Mahoning County will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge through the 2026 Winter Agriculture Series, a collaborative effort by OSU Extension Mahoning County, the Mahoning County Farm Bureau, and the Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District.

Held on select Thursdays throughout the winter season, this series is designed to provide practical, accessible education on key agricultural topics that support successful farm planning and long-term resilience.

All sessions will begin at 6 p.m. and take place at OSU Extension Mahoning County, 490 South Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406. The cost to attend is $5 per session, allowing farmers, landowners, and students to participate in high-quality educational programming at an affordable rate.

The first session, scheduled for January 22, 2026, will focus on Grants and Funding. This session will highlight available financial programs, application strategies, and opportunities that can help farmers expand operations, adopt new practices, or manage on-farm improvements.

The second session, taking place on February 26, 2026, will cover Farm Succession Planning, an important topic for families preparing for generational transfer of land and responsibilities. Participants will learn about communication strategies, legal considerations, and steps to ensure smooth transitions.

On March 26, 2026, Session Three will explore Local Foods and Farm Markets, offering insights into direct marketing, customer engagement, and opportunities for selling locally grown products. This session will help producers strengthen connections within their communities and expand market reach.

The final session, on April 23, 2026, will address Invasive Species and Woodland Timber Management. This program will outline how to identify invasive plants, protect woodland health, and manage timber resources responsibly.

Together, these four sessions form a valuable winter learning opportunity, helping farmers make informed decisions while connecting with local experts and fellow agricultural professionals. The AgriSeries supports ongoing education, encourages collaboration, and strengthens the agricultural community heading into the new year.
