Cattle farmers and enthusiasts, mark your calendars for the 2024 Cattle Herd Health Seminars hosted by OSU Extension and the College of Veterinary Medicine. Taking place on January 19 in Jackson and January 26 in Caldwell, these seminars will address pressing issues in cattle health and discuss solutions to combat large animal veterinary shortages in Southeastern Ohio.
Key speakers and topics include:
- Dr. Risa Pesapane – Tick Borne Diseases: Dr. Pesapane will shed light on the Asian Longhorned Tick and the emerging threat of Theileria orientalis. With Theileria cases on the rise in Ohio, understanding and preparation are crucial for safeguarding cow-calf and dairy production.
- Dr. Joe Lozier and Dr. Andy Niehaus – Calving, Dystocia Management & Foot, Hoof Care: These experts from the College of Veterinary Medicine will discuss calving and dystocia management, addressing the challenges faced due to the shortage of large animal practitioners in the region.
- Seth Clark – Vaccination Programs for Cow-Calf Herds: Territory manager for Merck Animal Health, Seth Clark, will explore vaccination options tailored for the cow-calf enterprise.
- Garth Ruff – Marketing Herd Health Programs: Garth Ruff, OSU Extension Beef Cattle Field Specialist, will conclude the day by sharing insights on marketing herd health programs to maximize returns on weaned calves.
