Certified Crop Adviser Exam Training Opportunity in Shelby County

Certified Crop Adviser Exam Training Opportunity in Shelby County

By Andi Anderson

A Certified Crop Adviser, often called a CCA, plays an important role in supporting farmers and improving crop production. To help individuals prepare for this professional certification, a two day CCA Exam Preparation Class will be held on January 13–14, 2026.

The program will take place at the Shelby County Ag Building in Sidney, Ohio, and is offered through the Ohio State University Extension.

The goal of this training is to help participants get ready for the Tri State CCA exam by providing a clear review of the four major competency areas.

These areas include nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management, and crop management. Each topic is essential for crop advisers who work with farmers and agricultural businesses.

Even individuals who are not planning to take the CCA exam may find the class helpful because it offers a strong introduction to agronomy. Farmers, ag retailers, and anyone working with field crops can benefit from the information shared.

The class is in depth and includes expert instruction, printed materials, and discussion. Registration costs $250 per person and includes several important publications.

These include the Ohio Agronomy Guide, the Ohio, Indiana and Illinois Weed Control Guide, the Ohio Corn, Soybean, Wheat and Forages Field Guide, and the Tri State Fertilizer Recommendations. Lunch will be provided both days, and all program materials are included.

Because of the hands on learning environment, class size is limited to 25 participants. Registration closes on December 31, 2025, and early enrollment is encouraged. Individuals can register online at the link provided in the announcement.

To earn Certified Crop Adviser status, participants must pass both the Local and International exams. These tests are proctored online several times each year, and registration for the next exam period opens on January 7, 2026.

Exam dates, reminders, and additional information are available on the official CCA website.

This preparation class provides a valuable opportunity for individuals who want to strengthen their agronomy knowledge, advance their careers, and support farmers through science based crop advising.
