The Ohio Fair Managers Association (OFMA) celebrated its centennial with a grand annual convention held in Columbus, Ohio, in January 2025. The four-day event, themed “Moving Forward,” brought together delegates from Ohio’s 94 county and independent fairs to reflect on a century of progress and community-building.
The convention featured engaging workshops, panel discussions, and a special concert by country music star Jo Dee Messina. Delegates also witnessed the crowning of the Ohio Fairs’ Queen, with Amberly Szczerbiak from Fayette County receiving the title.
Her court included Chloe Shellenberger (Miami County), Madelayne Lee (Wood County), Aidra Preston (Hardin County), and Mackenzie Specht (Clermont County). Outgoing Queen Leah Schuhart was recognized for visiting 51 fairs during her reign.
Prominent state leaders, including Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Treasurer Robert Sprague, addressed attendees, highlighting the importance of fairs in preserving Ohio’s agricultural heritage. The event also celebrated individuals and organizations for their exceptional service, with Director’s Awards presented for innovation and excellence.
Recipients of these prestigious awards were selected across nine districts, acknowledging their efforts to improve and strengthen fairs. Honorees included fair organizers, local businesses, and community leaders, with some posthumously recognized for their contributions.
The OFMA convention served as a platform to honor the rich history of Ohio’s fairs while fostering innovation and collaboration among stakeholders. With its vibrant blend of traditions and forward-looking initiatives, the event marked a milestone in celebrating Ohio’s agricultural and community spirit.
As OFMA enters its next century, the organization remains committed to supporting fairs and promoting agriculture across Ohio. The centennial celebration underscored the lasting impact of fairs in connecting communities and preserving the state’s heritage.
