Farm families looking to transition their farm business to the next generation can attend the “Planning for the Future of Your Farm” workshops hosted by OSU Extension.
These workshops will provide valuable insights on ownership transfer, estate planning, and asset protection.
Workshops will take place in Wayne County on March 11 and 13, 2025, at Fisher Auditorium in Wooster, Ohio. The registration fee is $85 per couple, covering materials, refreshments, and dinner. Additional members can join for $40 per person.
Led by David Marrison, OSU Extension Farm Management Field Specialist, and Robert Moore, an attorney from the OSU Agricultural & Resource Law Program, the sessions will focus on key aspects of farm transition planning.
Topics include:
- Developing goals for estate and transition planning
- Managing control transfer and handling unexpected changes
- Communication strategies for farm transfer discussions
- Federal estate tax considerations and legal tools
- Using wills, trusts, and LLCs for asset protection
- Strategies for on-farm and off-farm heirs
- Selecting the right attorney for estate planning
These sessions encourage multi-generational participation, allowing families to create a solid transition plan together. The workshops aim to equip farm owners with the necessary knowledge and tools to ensure a smooth transfer while protecting farm assets.
Pre-registration is required for participation. Contact John Yost at the Wayne County Extension office at 330-264-8722 for more details. Families are encouraged to attend and take proactive steps toward securing their farm’s future.
