The Ohio Department of Agriculture is taking proactive steps to address the threat posed by the invasive Spongy Moth. Through the use of non-toxic aerial treatment methods, the department aims to control the spread of this destructive pest while minimizing harm to the environment.
Starting from June 14th to the 18th, low-flying aircraft will administer mating disruption treatments to disrupt the moth's reproductive cycle.
This approach ensures the safety of humans, animals, fish, honeybees, and plants, as the treatment poses no harm to any living organisms.
For individuals seeking more information about the treatment program, including updated schedules, project maps, and product details, the department's website serves as a valuable resource. Additionally, inquiries can be directed to the office at 614-728-6400 or via email at plantpest@agri.ohio.gov.
Ohio's agricultural sector remains dedicated to preserving the state's natural biodiversity while safeguarding the health and well-being of its inhabitants.
