Tennessee Student Wins National Collegiate Discussion Meet

By Jamie Martin

Callie Robinson, a junior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been named the winner of the American Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Collegiate Discussion Meet. She earned this recognition for her ability to present strong, innovative ideas on how young farmers and ranchers can diversify their businesses to increase revenue.

Robinson qualified for the national competition after winning the Tennessee Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet. As the national champion, she received a $3,100 scholarship sponsored by the CHS Foundation.

The event, structured as a collaborative discussion, requires participants to engage in conversations, exchange ideas, and propose solutions to agricultural challenges. Robinson competed against 35 participants, including three other finalists - Lilly Pryor from Indiana, Ashlee Purvine from Oklahoma, and Morgan Simpson from North Carolina. Each finalist received a $2,100 scholarship from the CHS Foundation.

"AFBF’s YF&R program engages young Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18-35 by offering opportunities to develop as strong, effective leaders for service in both Farm Bureau and their communities."

A total of $18,500 in scholarships was awarded during the competition. Every competitor received a $100 scholarship, while those who advanced to the "Sweet 16" round were awarded an additional $500.

The competition took place during the AFBF’s FUSION Conference, held from March 7-10 in Denver. This event provides young agricultural leaders with opportunities for skill development and networking, helping them prepare for future leadership roles in the industry.
