Winter wheat in Ohio averaged 79 bushels per acre this year, down 6 bushels from last year, according to Cheryl Turner, state statistician, USDA NASS, Ohio Field Office. Wheat was planted on 510,000 acres, with 465,000 acres harvested for grain. Wheat production was 36.7 million bushels, down 16 percent from 2021. Dry weather in June pushed wheat maturity well ahead of normal; wheat harvest was nearly complete by mid-July, well ahead of average.
Oats in Ohio averaged 70 bushels per acre, an increase of 3 bushels from last year. Fifteen thousand acres of oats were harvested in 2022, down 25 percent from last year. Oat production, at 1.05 million bushels, was down 22 percent from a year ago.
