Farmers looking to strengthen their knowledge before the new year will have an opportunity to learn from experts during the December Farm Office Live webinar.
Even with the busy holiday season, the program encourages farmers to take time for educational growth. The webinar will be held on Friday, December 12 at 10 a.m.
This month’s session includes two special guest speakers. Joshua Strine from Purdue University’s Center for Commercial Agriculture will introduce Purdue’s web-based Crop Basis Tool, which provides corn and soybean basis data for market regions across the eastern corn belt.
Understanding basis trends is an important part of grain marketing, and the tool offers farmers accessible, real-time information tailored to their local needs.
The second guest, Dr. Robert Mullen of Heritage Cooperative, will share insights into fertilizer market trends. He will discuss current price movements, historical fertilizer price patterns, and the key factors shaping fertilizer costs for the coming year.
These updates are especially valuable as fertilizer remains one of the largest expenses in crop production.
The Farm Office team will also deliver several core updates. Peggy Hall from OSU’s Agricultural & Resource Law Program will provide a legislative update, helping farmers understand new policies and regulatory changes.
Barry Ward, leader of OSU Income Tax Schools, will offer a year-end tax update to help producers prepare for tax season.
In addition to the expert presentations, the webinar will highlight several winter programs and courses offered by the Farm Office team.
These include the Basics of Grain Marketing course, Planning for the Future of Your Farm workshops, the Food Business Central course, the Organic Grains Conference, and the Farm On course. Each program supports practical learning that farmers can apply directly to their operations.
The December session is described as a “gift of education,” offering tools and information that continue to benefit farmers throughout the year. Those who are not yet registered can sign up at go.osu.edu/farmofficelive, where replays of past webinars are also available.
