The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) has elongated the enrollment window for H2Ohio producers in the 14 counties within the Maumee River watershed. This extension offers an opportunity for farmers to contribute to improving water quality in Ohio.
H2Ohio, initiated by Governor Mike DeWine in 2019, aims to bolster long-term water quality by promoting the adoption of agricultural best practices, restoring wetlands, and upgrading home septic systems to curtail nutrients responsible for algal blooms.
The deadline for interested participants to enroll in the program has been extended to Feb. 2, 2024.
For detailed program information and enrollment, farmers are urged to reach out to their local Soil and Water Conservation District. In Lucas County, farmers can contact Lucas County SWCD at (419) 893-1966.
Farmers within the covered watershed regions can sign up new acres or re-enroll existing acres into the H2Ohio program. Eligible counties encompass Allen, Auglaize, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Hardin, Hancock, Lucas, Mercer, Putnam, Paulding, Van Wert, Williams, and Wood counties.
