The Ohio Farm Bureau celebrated agricultural leadership by presenting the inaugural Advocacy in Action Awards at its 106th Annual Meeting.
These awards recognize members who have made remarkable contributions to advancing agriculture in Ohio through leadership, initiative, and dedication.
The 2024 recipients are Roger Baker of Wayne County and Neall Weber of Franklin County, who was honored posthumously. Both individuals were nominated by their peers for their exceptional efforts in advocacy.
Roger Baker’s approach to advocacy is described as “arms wide open,” bringing diverse stakeholders together to discuss critical agricultural issues. He has hosted events like Supreme Court candidate receptions and Ag Advisory Council meetings at his farm, demonstrating relentless commitment to community engagement.
Neall Weber, a passionate advocate for agriculture, dedicated his life to educating others about farming. From hosting tours for Girl Scout troops and 4-H clubs to speaking at Rotary meetings, Weber was a staunch supporter of farmers’ rights and actively promoted the agricultural story within urban areas.
Ohio Farm Bureau President Bill Patterson emphasized the vital role members play in advocacy efforts, saying, “Our success in the policy arena would not happen without our members’ commitment.” Signature events like Ag Day at the Capital and leadership trips to Washington, D.C., highlight the organization’s focus on impactful advocacy.
