The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) has announced an extension for H2Ohio enrollment, catering to farmers within the Maumee River Watershed across 14 counties. Due to a remarkable response, the enrollment deadline has been extended until February 2, 2024.
This extension offers farmers in the active signup area an opportunity to enroll new acres or re-enroll existing acres into the H2Ohio program. Participants can earn incentives by implementing scientifically proven best management practices that enhance water quality. The eligible counties encompass Allen, Auglaize, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Hardin, Hancock, Lucas, Mercer, Putnam, Paulding, Van Wert, Williams, and Wood.
For further details on H2Ohio or inquiries regarding the extended enrollment period, farmers are encouraged to contact their local Soil and Water Conservation District.
H2Ohio, Governor DeWine's initiative, strives for the preservation of clean and safe water throughout Ohio. It's a comprehensive approach, leveraging data to enhance water quality in the long run. This initiative emphasizes agricultural best practices, wetland restoration, and the replacement of home septic systems to curtail nutrient levels linked to harmful algal blooms.
